dYdX community approves 20M token stake as network activity soars

The dYdX community has recently approved a significant proposal to stake 20 million DYDX tokens, in response to a noticeable spike in trading activity on their decentralized crypto exchange (DEX). This decision, passed with a commanding 91.7% of votes, will see over $61 million worth of tokens from the community treasury being staked with Stride, a liquid staking protocol. This strategic move aims to bolster the security of the network amid its rapid growth.

Staking, which involves locking cryptocurrency to support blockchain operations, offers stakers rewards while also mitigating risks like token value fluctuation. For dYdX, this action serves as a safeguard against potential control attacks, ensuring a decentralized distribution of voting power. Given the protocol’s architecture, an attacker would need to amass a significant amount of DYDX to manipulate the network or misuse funds, a scenario the staking initiative seeks to prevent.

Rewards from staking will be in USD Coin (USDC), sourced from trading fees on the protocol. The total value locked on dYdX's chain is reported at $504.48 million, with the network generating over $48.59 million in fees in the last year, highlighting its substantial growth and the community's commitment to security and stability.
