Yao Qian: China’s Crypto Strategist

In 2017, China cracked down on cryptocurrencies, banning ICOs and domestic exchanges. At the center of its digital currency strategy is Yao Qian, director of the PBOC Digital Currency Research Institute, who combines regulatory authority with deep blockchain knowledge.

Qian has outlined how a central bank digital currency could operate, either issued by the PBOC or through commercial banks, and designed to maintain stability while embracing innovation.
