Hoskinson Warns Trump’s Crypto Moves Are Hurting the Industry

Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, says former U.S. President Donald Trump’s crypto policies have damaged the crypto industry instead of helping it. He believes the situation is now worse than it was under President Joe Biden.

Hoskinson criticized the launch of Trump Coin and Melania Trump’s coin, saying they made crypto look like a money grabbing political tool. After the launch, Trump Coin lost more than 80% of its value, causing big losses for investors and increasing scams in the meme coin market.

According to Hoskinson, these moves also destroyed a chance for bipartisan crypto laws in early 2025. He said important bills like the GENIUS Act and the Clarity Act could have passed if the meme coins had not been launched. Instead, crypto became a political issue, pushing Democrats away from supporting regulation.

He also blamed the Trump administration for lacking structure and clear leadership. Hoskinson said industry leaders were not properly consulted, and decisions were made without coordination. This, he warned, could delay clear crypto rules until at least 2029.

While some industry figures believe delays in regulation are not entirely bad, Hoskinson remains pessimistic. He argues that crypto has been politicized, trust has been damaged, and the industry has lost a key opportunity to move forward together.
