Bermuda Partners with Coinbase and Circle to Build a Fully Onchain Economy

The Government of Bermuda has partnered with Coinbase and Circle to develop a “fully onchain” national economy that uses digital assets for everyday payments. Announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the plan will pilot stablecoin payments in government services, expand USDC use among businesses, and support banks adopting tokenization tools.

Stablecoins are seen as a low-cost alternative to traditional payment systems, which are expensive for island economies. The initiative builds on Bermuda’s early digital asset regulations and includes public education programs. Adoption is voluntary, with a focus on lowering costs and improving access to global finance.
