Lido Finance has achieved a significant milestone in the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector by reaching one million Ethereum validators. According to recent Dune data, Lido now handles 28.5% of all staked Ether, making it the most utilized liquid staking protocol. This accessibility benefits retail customers with lower funds, enabling them to participate without the typical requirement of 32 Ether for running a validator node. The introduction of Lido’s stETH allows users to retain liquidity and utilize their tokens in other DeFi protocols during the staking period. As a result, the total value locked (TVL) in DeFi surged to $97 billion in Q1 of 2024 from a low of $36 billion in the previous quarter, with Lido commanding a leading $29.9 billion of this figure. Liquid staking protocols like Lido have been pivotal in this growth, according to analysis by Messari, contributing to a 65.6% increase in DeFi TVL quarter-on-quarter.
