Marathon Digital Follows MicroStrategy's Lead with $2 Billion Stock Offering for Bitcoin Purchases

Marathon Digital Holdings, formerly known as MARA Holdings, has announced plans to sell up to $2 billion in stock to acquire more Bitcoin, a move reminiscent of Michael Saylor's strategy with MicroStrategy.

In November, the company completed a $1 billion offering of 0% convertible senior notes due 2030, with net proceeds of approximately $980 million primarily used to buy Bitcoin.

As of September 30, 2024, Marathon held 26,747 Bitcoin, including 20,266 mined at an average cost of $43,805 each and 6,481 purchased at an average cost of $60,022 each.

Marathon's stock price has experienced fluctuations, closing at $12.47 on March 28, down 8.58%, with further declines in overnight trading.
