DeFi trading volumes and the market capitalization of related tokens have also seen significant increases. DeFi aims to offer financial services like investing, borrowing, and trading without traditional intermediaries, using blockchain and smart contracts. The prospect of lower U.S. interest rates has made DeFi even more attractive, with yields on crypto deposits outpacing those of U.S. Treasuries in some cases. However, the sector is known for its volatility, with DeFi investments experiencing dramatic fluctuations over the years. Recent gains in DeFi have been linked to rises in bitcoin and ethereum prices, enhancing liquidity for traders to explore riskier assets.
