DTCC, Chainlink complete fund data tokenization pilot with U.S. banks
The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and blockchain oracle Chainlink have successfully concluded a pilot program with several major U.S. banks, including JPMorgan and BNY Mellon, to enhance traditional finance fund tokenization. The Smart NAV Pilot aimed to standardize the provision of net asset value (NAV) data for funds on blockchains using Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP).
The pilot demonstrated that by delivering structured data on-chain and establishing standard roles and processes, foundational data could be embedded into various on-chain use cases. These include tokenized funds and bulk consumer smart contracts, which hold data for multiple funds. The findings suggest potential for automated data management, reduced impact on traditional financial practices, and easier access to historical data through broader API solutions.
Participating firms in the pilot included American Century Investments, BNY Mellon, Edward Jones, Franklin Templeton, Invesco, JPMorgan, MFS Investment Management, Mid Atlantic Trust, State Street, and U.S. Bank. Chainlink’s native token, LINK, saw a 12.5% price increase following the report.
The DTCC report underscores a growing interest in real-world asset tokenization among traditional financial institutions, exemplified by BlackRock’s recent launch of a tokenized money market fund on the Ethereum network.
