Western Union Launches Stablecoin Card

Western Union is preparing to launch a prepaid stablecoin card designed for countries struggling with high inflation. Speaking at the UBS Global Technology and AI Conference, CFO Matthew Cagwin explained that the card will allow users to safeguard their purchasing power against rapid currency depreciation. In places like Argentina, where inflation surpassed 200% last year, a USD-pegged stablecoin card offers a more stable alternative to local currency.  

Alongside the card, Western Union announced plans to introduce its own USD stablecoin, called USDPT, on the Solana blockchain in early 2026. The initiative reflects the company’s broader push into digital assets, aiming to provide customers with reliable tools to preserve value and navigate volatile economic environments.
