Brazil’s Central Bank Enforces New Crypto Framework

Brazil’s central bank has introduced a new regulatory framework for cryptocurrency firms, requiring licensing and strict compliance with foreign exchange and capital market laws. Companies must maintain minimum capital reserves of 10.8 million reais ($2 million), with higher thresholds of up to 37.2 million reais ($7 million) depending on their business model. Firms that fail to comply, as well as foreign operators without a local entity, will be prohibited from operating in the country.  

The rules also extend oversight to stablecoins and cross-border crypto transfers, placing them under foreign exchange controls. Transactions will be capped at $100,000 each, aiming to strengthen financial stability and prevent regulatory loopholes in Brazil’s rapidly growing digital asset market.
