Europol Shuts Down $1.4B Crypto Mixer

German and Swiss authorities, backed by Europol, dismantled Cryptomixer, a Bitcoin mixing service accused of laundering more than $1.4 billion since 2016. The raid in Zurich led to the seizure of $27 million in cryptocurrency, three servers, and 12 terabytes of data, marking one of the largest crackdowns on crypto laundering infrastructure in Europe.  

Experts note the takedown will temporarily disrupt ransomware groups and darknet operators who relied on the service to obscure illicit funds. However, they expect these actors to quickly adapt, shifting to alternative mixers or cross-chain methods within weeks, underscoring the resilience of underground financial networks.
