Congress Pushes SEC on Digital Assets

Lawmakers on the House Financial Services Committee have urged SEC Chair Paul Atkins to modernize rules so that Bitcoin and other digital assets can be included in 401(k) retirement plans. Their request follows President Trump’s directive to broaden investment choices for Americans saving for retirement.  

The letter also pressed the SEC to relax the definition of “accredited investor,” making it easier for more individuals to access private investment opportunities. Members further emphasized the need for coordination with the Department of Labor to ensure consistent regulations across retirement and investment frameworks.
