China’s Bitcoin Mining Resurgence

China’s Bitcoin mining industry has quietly rebounded despite the government’s 2021 ban, now accounting for roughly 14% of the global hashrate and ranking as the third-largest contributor worldwide. The resurgence is driven by miners returning to energy-abundant regions such as Xinjiang and Sichuan, where low-cost electricity makes operations viable.  

Analysts, including CryptoQuant, estimate that between 15% and 20% of global Bitcoin mining currently originates from China, underscoring the country’s continued influence in the sector. New facilities are being built in these regions, highlighting how miners are adapting to local conditions and re-establishing China as a significant player in the global crypto landscape.
