FSC Misses Stablecoin Bill

South Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) missed the December 10 deadline to submit its proposed won‑stablecoin regulatory bill, citing the need for more coordination among government agencies. The setback highlights unresolved tensions over how to oversee the fast‑growing digital asset sector.  

At the center of the dispute is the Bank of Korea, which is pushing for veto authority over stablecoin issuance and restrictions on participation by major tech firms. These disagreements have stalled progress, leaving the future of stablecoin regulation in South Korea uncertain.
