Fed Report Shows Stable but Softening Economy

The Federal Reserve’s latest Beige Book shows overall economic activity holding steady, though some areas reported mild softening. Consumer spending continued to weaken, with strength concentrated in high-end retail. Employment edged down as businesses scaled back hiring in certain roles, citing efficiency gains from AI. Wages rose modestly, reflecting a slower pace of labor market pressures.  

Prices increased slightly, while manufacturers and retailers faced higher costs linked to tariffs. Although inflationary pressures were limited, businesses expressed concern about ongoing input costs. The report points to a stable but cautious economic environment, shaped by softening demand and evolving labor dynamics.
