Crypto exchanges see $3B Ethereum exit since ETF approvals

Since the approval of spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States on May 23, over $3 billion worth of Ether (ETH) has been withdrawn from centralized crypto exchanges. This significant outflow, amounting to around 797,000 ETH, suggests a potential upcoming supply squeeze as investors move their holdings to self-custody.

Data from CryptoQuant reveals that the amount of Ether on exchanges dropped by approximately $3.02 billion between May 23 and June 2. This decline indicates fewer coins are available for immediate sale. Glassnode data, analyzed by Leon Waidmann, shows that only 10.6% of the circulating Ether supply is currently held on exchanges, the lowest level in years.

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas predicts that Ether ETFs have a "legit possibility" of launching by late June. Analysts suggest that Ether could surpass its November 2021 all-time high of $4,870 due to increased demand from ETF trading, similar to Bitcoin's surge after spot Bitcoin ETFs began trading.

Despite potential demand pressures, concerns remain about the impact of Grayscale's Ethereum Trust (ETHE), which manages $11 billion in funds. If ETHE follows the pattern of Grayscale's Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), it could lead to significant outflows.

Currently, Ether is trading at $3,781, down 0.82% over the past 24 hours and approximately 23% below its all-time high.
