Kazakhstan Central Bank Eyes Crypto Reserve Move

The National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) is weighing a potential investment in crypto assets that could reach as high as $300 million, though officials suggest the final figure may fall between $50 million and $250 million. Chairman Timur Suleimenov emphasized that the move would be funded from the central bank’s foreign exchange reserves rather than the country’s sovereign wealth fund.  

Suleimenov noted that the recent volatility in digital asset markets has prompted the bank to wait before committing, saying they intend to “let the dust settle” before entering. The cautious stance reflects NBK’s effort to balance diversification of reserves with risk management amid sharp downturns in the crypto sector.
