Trump Eyes $2,000 Tariff Dividend via Tax Cuts

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that President Donald Trump’s proposed $2,000 “tariff dividend” could be implemented through tax relief measures outlined in his latest economic policy bill. The plan considers exempting tips, overtime pay, and Social Security income from taxation, while also permitting deductions for auto loan interest.  

Trump has emphasized that the U.S. is generating “trillions of dollars” from tariffs and pledged that these revenues will help reduce the nation’s $37 trillion debt. The administration frames the initiative as a way to return tariff proceeds directly to citizens while tackling long-term fiscal challenges.
