Philippines Blocks Coinbase, Gemini

Philippine internet providers have blocked access to Coinbase and Gemini following an order from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), which acted on guidance from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The directive targeted around 50 trading platforms deemed unauthorized to operate in the country.  

This move follows earlier restrictions on Binance in March 2024 and comes amid heightened scrutiny by regulators. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has also flagged other unlicensed exchanges such as OKX, Bybit, and KuCoin, signaling a broader crackdown on offshore crypto platforms lacking local authorization.
