SEC Sues Shima Capital Founder

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a lawsuit against crypto venture firm Shima Capital and its founder Yida Gao, accusing them of defrauding investors. The case, reported by journalist Kate Irwin, comes just three weeks after the SEC’s action, with internal emails revealing Gao’s intention to step down and begin winding down the fund.  

Shima Capital, launched in 2021, oversees roughly $200 million in assets and has backed high-profile projects such as Berachain, Monad, and Pudgy Penguins. The firm’s sudden unraveling marks a significant setback in the crypto venture space, raising questions about the future of its portfolio companies and investor confidence in the sector.
