Binance Founder’s Pardon Not a Deal

CZ’s lawyer Teresa Goody Guillen has rejected claims that President Trump’s October pardon of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao involved any “pay-to-play” arrangement. Speaking on the Pomp Podcast, she insisted there was no deal behind the pardon and dismissed reports linking Binance, World Liberty Financial, and the “USD1” stablecoin to influence-buying as a “pile-up of false statements.”  

Zhao, who pleaded guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act in 2023, served four months in prison in 2024 and paid a $50 million fine. His legal team maintains that the pardon was not connected to financial or political favors, countering speculation that business ties were leveraged to secure leniency.
