Crypto Mining Crackdown in Russia

Russia’s Ministry of Justice has introduced draft amendments to the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code that would criminalize illegal cryptocurrency mining. The proposal outlines penalties including fines of up to 1.5 million rubles or sentences of up to two years of compulsory labor for offenders.  

For cases involving significant profits or organized criminal groups, the sanctions could be harsher, with prison terms reaching up to five years. The draft legislation was published on the country’s official legal and regulatory portal, signaling a move toward stricter regulation of the crypto sector.
