Tether slams Deutsche Bank over suggestion its stablecoin could fail

Tether, a major stablecoin issuer, has publicly criticized a report from Deutsche Bank that questioned the stability of dollar-pegged stablecoins like Tether's USDT. The report, citing the 2022 collapse of TerraUSD and a historical analysis of currency pegs, suggested that such stablecoins could face significant de-pegging risks. Deutsche analysts highlighted a general lack of transparency in stablecoin operations and described Tether’s solvency status as “questionable.”

In response, Tether dismissed the report as lacking clarity and substantial evidence, stating it was based on vague assertions rather than a rigorous analysis. They found the comparison to TerraUSD, an algorithmic stablecoin, misleading since Tether is backed by reserves. Tether also criticized Deutsche Bank's credibility, pointing to its history of fines and penalties.

Tether has been scrutinized for not conducting full financial audits, though it has released several attestations indicating it holds substantial fiat-denominated reserves. Despite controversies, some industry figures believe Tether maintains adequate reserves.
