Bitcoin miner CleanSpark plunges 10% after $800M share offering
Bitcoin mining company CleanSpark experienced a significant 10% drop in stock value in after-hours trading. This decline came in the wake of their announcement to increase their at-the-market (ATM) offering to $800 million, up from a previously agreed $500 million with H.C. Wainwright & Co. The move is a strategic effort to raise capital, allowing the sale of shares at a nominal price of $0.001 each. Such a large offering is expected to dilute existing shares by 19%, given the company's $4.2 billion market cap.
Despite this immediate setback, CleanSpark has shown remarkable performance overall. By the close of the trading day, the stock had fallen 16% to $19.1, including an 8.2% drop during regular trading hours. However, the company has seen a dramatic 95% increase in 2024 and an impressive 685% rise over the past twelve months.
CleanSpark is strategically positioning itself for the upcoming Bitcoin halving event, expected to reduce mining rewards by half. It plans to double its hash rate in the first half of 2024 through new acquisitions. The company has secured the title for the lowest production cost per Bitcoin post-halving, set at $26,900, according to a CoinShares report.
