The Power of the Mind

Mind is one of the best gifts that human beings received and this comes courtesy of God. It is our seat of thought, dreams, ideas and imagination. All that we can see around us today, whether it is cars, airplanes, mobile phones, dainty buildings, they all started in the mind of somebody. This proves that the mind is able to create, to transform, and to evolve the world. As a Nigerian and also as a human being, I am confident that when an individual learns to use the mind in the right manners, there is nothing he or she will not achieve in life.

The mind is the key and the initiation begins through thought. Our thoughts tend to become what we spend most of our time thinking about and this will reflect in our reality. When one believes in positive thoughts and believes in achieving a successful outcome, he/she is likely to strive and accomplish the same.

Whereas when the negative thoughts such as fear and doubt fill the mind, the individual will be held back and may not accomplish very much in life. That is why a lot of sagacious individuals say that the mind is a garden. Whatever crops you sow in it is what will come up. Plant good seeds of the kind such as faith, hard work and hope and good results will be harvested. In case you plant bad things such as laziness, fear and hatred, you will harvest bad things.

Imagination is another facet through which the strength of the mind is displayed. The imagination allows someone to imagine things into life before they materialize them. E.g. before an engineer can start constructing a house, he envisions the house in his thoughts and then draws it down on paper. The sound is first in the mind of a musician who then writes a song. Creativity is born of imagination. Being Nigerians we are creative people by nature.

The memory also dominates the body Science has established that our thinking can have an impact on our health. As the mind calms down, it is usually very strong and healthy. However, when the mind is filled with stress, worry or bitterness then the body may fall sick easily. That is the reason why one is encouraged to think positively, to pardon other people and to live with hope. A healthy body normally brings about a healthy mind The way the thoughts run can give us strength to go ahead even in the hard moments.

The problems experienced by most youths in Nigeria include unemployment, education, and poverty. However, with the power of the mind we could overcome such issues. Being young and believing that his past will not cut short his future, he will start thinking on how to push through and overcome difficulties. He can choose to acquire a competence, to begin a small enterprise or to open opportunities through the internet. The brain makes us have the boldness to dream yet we live in an environment that does not favor our dreams.

The other power of mind is the ability to focus. The intellect is light like When it spreads it cannot affect much. However, once it is concentrated it can make a tremendous impact. A focused mind can accomplish big things just the way sunlight can be focused to achieve goal fire like a magnifying glass. Most achievers in life did not get everything they wanted in life, but they trained their mind to concentrate on something until they got it. We can apply this lesson there in Nigeria to create good and strong businesses, to pass our exams as well as develop our talents.

The mind can also control relationships of people How we think about people influences how we treat people When our mind has love, respect, kindness, we will automatically develop good relations. However, when our mind is full of jealous thinking, anger, and envy, we will never stop having conflicts with the people around us. Families, friendships, and communities become stronger when people learn to be able to train their own mind to find the good in others, and when people learn to forgive easily.

The mind does not distinguish between reality and powerful imagination which is interesting. E.g. when you mentally visualize eating a ripe mango, your mouth may water. This indicates the might of imagination. This is the reason why sportsmen, musicians, and others do tend to rehearse mentally. They fantasize that they are doing well before actually doing it well In Nigeria this can be used whereby students visualize themselves answering examination questions even before they are even in the hall. Entrepreneurs are in a position where they can envision how their businesses will expand and strive to ensure that it does so.

The mind can also be spiritual in power. In the Bible, it is narrated that, as a man thinks in his heart, so he is. Our thoughts make us the character that we are formed to be. Many great leaders and prophets managed to do a lot of things because they taught their minds not to weaken in faith even in the moments where people disbelieved them. This is something that we as Nigerians can learn and apply and with our minds we cannot only make physical developments but also use it in spiritual growth.

There is also relevance to knowing that the mind is trainable. Like the body requires an exercise to be healthy, the mind also requires exercise to be intelligent. Such mind exercises can include reading books, acquiring new skills, tackling problems, and meditating. An indolent mind will accomplish little but with an active mind there is always an opening. In Nigeria, the youth should be motivated to think, question and find new solutions to problems rather than going to school only.

The mind can as well threaten when out of control As you can use a sharp knife to prepare a meal or to stab somebody, the mind can be applied in a right or wrong way. Individuals with wicked minds tend to become lawbreakers acquired in the minds beforehand Hence the importance of giving the mind good things to fill it up. Exposure to violent movies every now and then, bad opinions and negative influences like friends often pollute the mind. On the contrary, positive books (listening and reading talks can strengthen the mind and purify it by keeping good company.

To sum it up, the strength of the mind is stronger than one may imagine. It is able to create, imagine, heal, focus, build relationships and even shape our future. Putting a hard time on our mind, we as a Nigerian must learn to apply our mind towards a wiser goal. We do not have all the money, technology, or resources of other countries, but we can be just as great because we train our minds. Our mind is an asset and once we learn to use it in the best way, we can unlock gates of success, peace and happiness.
