More than a decade ago, Bitcoin has been the subject of worldwide talk. Since its inception in 2009 by the anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto, it has rose in value, starting out at little to no value and has now become the most valuable digital asset. Things formerly laughed at are now receiving serious notice on the part of many people.
It has made common men millionaires and it has transformed our thought process in regards to money. However, there exists one big question that is still irking the minds of as well as splitting fellow experts and investors: Will bitcoin ever hit one million dollars?
Admittedly, the concept of Bitcoin reaching the one-million dollar mark may seem too outrageous to worst critics, whereas there are many individuals, who believe, that it is far beyond impossible, but only a matter of time. To get a feel of this debate, it is wise to take a backward look at the history of Bitcoin. During its start up, a unit of bitcoin was exchanged below a cent. By the year 2011, it had increased to $1.
By 2013, it came to stand at $1,000. Last year, when everyone thought that the dream is over, Bitcoin rocketed to nearly $20,000. In 2021, it reached the record high of approximately 69,000. Whenever it increases, everybody is astounded. Whenever it goes down, the critics raise their voices that it is dead. But in some way or other, Bitcoin is able to rise up better than before. This is the historic growth which leads some of these people to assume that a $1 million is not a dream.
Those experts that hold to the idea that Bitcoin can be worth a million dollars provide a number of reasons as to why such a thing is possible. Unlike money in the governments which can be printed by governmental central banks anytime, Bitcoin has a limited number. This limited-supply renders Bitcoin like digital gold. Suppose that demand persists to increase, so the price is forced to increase to high levels. There are even analysts who think that in case only a minimum portion of global wealth are turned into Bitcoin, then the price can easily go past one million dollars.
The other reason is inflation Economies all over the world have been printing more money to boost their economies particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. This caused the depreciation of many currencies. In Nigeria, the naira, compared to the dollar, has really run aground.
Those who stored their money in naira were the victims as it became worthless. The people who had Bitcoin also experienced the appreciation of their savings. Most analysts are of the view that as inflation wreaks havoc in the world, more individuals are set to flock to Bitcoin as a store of value. In the event this occurs, the price will keep falling.
Such giants of the financial world do not doubt the future of Bitcoin. Cathie Wood, the head of ARK Invest, has confidently set out that Bitcoin may attain a figure of 1 million by 2030. She opines that the moment more assets such as banks, pension companies and businesses start to invest in Bitcoin the demand would become irresistible.
Likewise, Michael Saylor, the boss of MicroStrategy, has injected billions of the company funds into Bitcoin. He is of the opinion that Bitcoin is the way of the future and will at some point in the future be valued higher than gold. To individuals such as him, 1 million dollars each Bitcoin is just nearby the corner.
Not every person at that believes however. There also are reports that Bitcoin hitting $1 million is a mythic tale. They claim that Bitcoin is volatile. The price can move up considerably, but it can crash rather severely as well. As an example, having reached the mark of $69,000 in 2021, it fell to less than $20,000 in 2022. Huge sums of money were lost by many investors.
This form of instability is, according to critics, actually why Bitcoin can never become a trusted global currency. They also indicate that the government can never allow Bitcoin to succeed fully because it interferes with their control of money. However, overly strict legislation put forward by governments can prevent the price of Bitcoin to sky-rocket.
One more issue is technology Although Bitcoin has been holding on firmly today, it has been a question whether it might be substituted by new technologies in the future. In the same way that MySpace was a hit some years ago until Facebook came along and replaced it, some feel as though another cryptocurrency may come along and dethrone Bitcoin one day. They did and That is why this year Bitcoin may not scale up to the expected value of a million dollars.
Despite these criticisms, it is a fact that Bitcoin has not wanted to die. Over decade they have wanted to call it bubble, scam, or a fad. Nevertheless, it does not die out. Whenever it obtains one of these falls, it conversely climbs a step higher. Many feel that it has a long future because of this resilience over it. Bitcoin has been a saviour to Nigerians in particular.
Since naira continues to depreciate in value every day, most youths have opted to use Bitcoin in accumulating savings and wealth creation. Some are even using it in making international transactions, freelancing and investments. The price would be even higher in case more Nigerians and Africans on the whole will use Bitcoin.
So is Bitcoin going to increase to $1 million? Well the truth is that no one can tell. The crypto economy is unpredictable and even the most prominent of professionals have been proven wrong in the past. It is possible to say that Bitcoin already achieved some things that had been previously impossible. No one would have ever thought that something, which began with nothing, would be worth tens of thousands of dollars at one point? As the history teaches, there is still a possibility that Bitcoin can once again shock us.
The point to be learned by the average Nigerian investor is this: It is too late when the price of a Bitcoin rises above a million dollars. The lesson is to learn, invest and study wisely now. There are dangers to crypto Millions of people lost their money in some scams, greed, or bad judgments.
Patients, disciplined individuals and informed people have witnessed fantastic results. It will not take a day to get Bitcoin up to one million dollars. It will be the fruits of years of development, use, and confidence. Exercising forethought will be the ones to have the reward.
Finally, the argument on whether Bitcoin will hit $1 million or not will always be on. Some specialists are convinced in it, others are sure that this will not pass. Nevertheless, there is one fact that simply cannot be neglected: Bitcoin has already made its changes in the financial world.
It may not take a million dollars but it has brought new hope to people, new opportunities and a new perspective to money. And according to the track record of the last decade, then maybe seeing Bitcoin at a value of one million dollars, will not be so outrageous after all.
